La Trappe Quadrupel Oak Aged batch 45 has matured in Calvados barriques. This is the very first time that the La Trappe Quadrupel has matured in Calvados barrels and thus a unique Oak Aged.
Calvados is a distilled apple cider from Normandy in France. The colder climate in Normandy is ideal for growing apples, which are used for apple cider. The cider is then distilled 2 more times, after which a further maturation of at least 2 years in oak barrels follows to obtain Calvados.
Batch 45 has a deep dark amber color with a fine foam head. In the smell, the typical fresh apple, originating from the Calvados, is immediately noticeable. The beer is fruity and goes in perfect harmony with the soft aromas of oak and the malty notes of La Trappe Quadrupel.
The taste is slightly sweet, soft and full-bodied. The Calvados also comes through well in the aftertaste, which gives the beer a very fresh aftertaste. When the beer warms up slightly, the typical scents and flavors, such as vanilla, come out more from the oak.
Batch 45 is a unique and warming tasting beer, complex but very accessible. This batch was blended in July 2022.
