Throughout the later half of the 1800’s, Iron Furnaces around the Southeast Ohio area and into parts of Kentucky and West Virginia burned red hot smelting ore into iron. The Hops Furnace outside of Athens Country operated from 1854-1874, producing 15 tons of iron a day. A small town of 300 kept the furnace fed and alive. The structure still stands today and was inspiration for the biggest, richest, and burliest barley wine we have ever produced. Iron Furnace was brewed with a ridiculous amount of local maple syrup, brown sugar, and loads of malt. Aged in some of our favorite bourbon barrels.
